GRODEK
At first Grodek was a fortified village. At the turn of the 16th c. it was presented to the Chodkiewicz family by the Polish king. Chodkiewicz built a wooden castle and a brick orthodox church there. He also founded the monastery which later developed into the famous Supraska Lawra.
The urban layout of Grodek, the orthodox church, and the Roman Catholic church are the most valuable monuments in the town. There are other monuments and farm buildings (an inn, windmills) around Grodek.
The forests, which comprise 57% of the entire area, have rich flora and fauna. 200 bird species, wolves, bison and beavers can be found here. The local choir maintains and cultivates Belorussian traditions.
